For a master clock to
deliver the best performance it must be fed from an ultra-low noise power
supply source. The Ultraclock reference clock uses on-board regulation which
provides extremely low noise to its digital & analogue circuits but to
drive noise down further the concept must be taken right back to the AC input.
One solution is to use a micro pulse transformer at the clock output but this
does not stop noise from entering the clock at the DC input, so the results
have limited benefits.
The optimum solution
is to provide the clock with a dedicated, ultra-low noise clock power supply.
The benefits here are twofold; the PSU isolates the clock from the noisy
supplies in your CD/DVD player. Secondly, the clock PSU can be designed to meet
the extremely low noise, high speed performance deserving of a reference clock
where continuous performance can be maintained. To meet such as performance
level Audiocom have developed a matching Ultraclock reference power supply. The
Ultraclock is a linear power supply with on-board “ultra-low noise” discrete
regulation to cater specifically for the clock. The linear supply uses the
finest Jensen 10,000µF 4-pole reservoir capacitor, near-perfect, zero recovery
SiC diodes, bespoke voltage reference module as a start.
