Noise is the killer
of everything audio & video, and the noise inside your CD player (DVD
player, etc) is being generated by the very component which should stop noise,
the voltage regulators. The function of the regulator is partly in the name, it
‘regulates’ the voltage, but this is only part of the task. The voltage
regulator’s role is also to reject noise (AC ripple) from the unregulated
supply and provide a noise free output. The 3-terminal regulators, 7805, LM317,
used by manufacturers do a moderate job, regulation is good, rejection of noise
at low frequencies (120Hz) average, but they have worsening performance as
frequency increases and 1KHz upwards performance slopes off drastically; right
through the audio & video band. At the high frequencies, 15-20 KHz this
slope off has dropped rejection to a poor 50db. The 3-terminal regulators have
poor output noise performance, approx. 45µV noise @ 10Hz to 100 KHz, and
steeply increasing impedance at 1KHz upwards.
Why don’t
manufacturers use a better alternative? Passive components used in audio &
video manufacturing are purchased in mass quantities for lowest price; the 7805
will cost less than $0.10 in volume. There is no other alternative to the 78XX
& LM317 series other than designing in a discrete circuit; increasing
component count, increasing cost, reducing profits and making it not viable.
We have a solution,
the Invisus 2 is a discretely designed regulator without compromise where
individual circuit parameters have been optimised to achieve highest ripple
rejection, extremely low noise, fast transient response and very low impedance
at high frequencies.
Replacing the 78XX
& LM317 type regulators in your CD, DVD player, DAC processor with Invisus
2 will remove noise and bring a range of improvements including increased
resolution, improved detail & clarity, better dynamics, faster, tauter
bass, improved stereo separation. Stop noise in your system and start hearing
more music!
