Embodying precision coil springs, in combination with
aperture-damped concertina air bellows,
the Seismic Sink provides the perfect interface between the
suspended component and the outside world. Vibration is isolated from 3Hz up
with attenuation at 18dB per octave.
Differing spring strengths allow for equipment weight
ranging from 3kg (7lb) to 160kg (350).
From the company that pioneered high compliant air
suspension of components, Townshend Audio present the latest Seismic Sink which
dispenses with the traditional air suspension now replaced with a highly
sophisticated spring bellows air damped suspension system that is fully
adjustable and totally maintenance free.
The concept derives from the award winning Seismic Sink and
the Seismic Sink Stand. These trail-blazing products have conclusively shown
the Hi-Fi and video world how vitally important it is to thoroughly isolate all
source components from ground and floor borne vibrations. Record players, CD
and DVD players, D to A converters, preamplifiers, power amplifiers, solid
state or tube.
All are affected! Vibration causes the sound to become
closed in, grainy, indistinct, edgy, hard, sibilant, blurred and un-involving.
The sound stage is dramatically reduced and subtle reverberant detail is
masked. In the case of video systems, the picture loses focus, colour purity
degrades and grain increases.
The Seismic Sink comprises a spring bellows air damped
variable Q suspension system suspending a vibration eliminating constrained
layer mass damped isolation platform that is placed under your equipment.
Vibrations present in the supporting surface are prevented from reaching the
equipment due to the filtering action of the suspension units, just as the
suspension smoothes out the ride of a motor car. In addition, any residual air
borne vibration is absorbed in the constrained layer damped surface.
The unique suspension system incorporates a variable Q
resistive air damping system that functions as a very high Q mass/spring system
that has exceptional isolation above the 3Hz system resonance for the optimum
vibration isolation when handling micro vibrations where the damping is
virtually zero. When the system is disturbed, the damping immediately increases
to a very high level to kill un-wanted oscillation so that the system rapidly
comes to rest., reverting to the high Q state.
The perfect equipment isolator! The weight range that may be
accommodated is enormous! The lightest weight being half a kilo (1lb) up to
??kg. For the heavier loads, extra spring/damper feet are added. Even way off
centre loads may be accommodated. For example, valve/tube amplifiers with the
transformers all at the rear. How well does it work? . . . .
The increase in clarity is best described as fractal! i.e.
hidden layers of fine detail are revealed that were previously masked by the
effects of noise. Whether it is CD, LP or Laser Disc, whether it is tubes or
solid state, digital or analogue, low level or high level processing stages,
the results are always the same.
Clarity, definition, silkiness, relaxing, large, open, free,
fast, louder, natural. . . These are the words that spring immediately to mind.
The effect is not subtle. So convincing is the effect that we, at Townshend
Audio, have coined the phrase "the one note dem" to sum up the
phenomenon, as it only takes an instant to hear the difference.
