The
Oppo arrived on Saturday and it has been burning in nicely ever since.
Straight
out of the box, the sound was noticeably improved but now it has had a few days
under its belt, the sound is developing to the point where the speakers are disappearing
in the room. The picture on the other
hand was lacking in colour saturation and there was noticeable noise in the
picture, this was the case for a few hours, I think until the capacitors
charged up and/or bedded in.The picture
quality now is very clear and natural looking.I am looking forward to testing it with more films over the next few
days.
Now
that it has had a few days to warm up, the sound for films is HUGE.
Plenty
of detail, dialogue is crystal clear, bass is deep and crisp, basically
everything sounds very real!I watched
Hurtlocker last night and District 9 tonight, the gunfire and explosions
sounded immense, helicopters flying overhead sound like you are standing on the
ground outside as they fly past.
For
music, again, very detailed right across the frequency range with great rhythm.I spent most of today exploring CD's which I
have not listened to for quite some time and was able to enjoy them from a new
perspective with the very much improved retrieval from the disk and smooth
enveloping sound.
All
in all the modifications are a definite improvement and very worthwhile, the
only problem now is that after watching a film on the Oppo and then turning to
watch Sky, the Sky picture and sound quality is now severely lacking.
I
will update you further in about a week to let you know how the sound and
picture develops further.
